Former Work Site of Famed Inventor Thomas Edison a Place to Live, Work and Play

WEST ORANGE, N.J., Oct. 1, 2019 – When Ryan Narain of West Orange is in need of a bit of inspiration – or just a change of scenery from his home office – he looks no further than the grounds of Edison Village, the setting for his apartment at The Residences at Edison Lofts.

Prism Capital Partners recently completed the industrial-to-residential-and-retail redevelopment of the historic Thomas Edison Invention Factory and Commerce Center – once the worksite of the famed inventor for which it was named. “Edison himself was the Apple of that time,” said Narain, an e-commerce expert who moved to Edison Lofts last year with his wife, Ilona. “It’s inspiring to live in the place where Edison brought his inventions to life, and the redesigned factory building has such charm.”

Narain founded and runs Mekenix, a five-year-old technology firm that helps companies increase their e-commerce sales through performance marketing. Originally from Amsterdam, he lived in Santa Monica and Miami before moving to Edison Village. Choosing a home with proximity to New York City was essential for Narain’s business. “I have many clients in Manhattan, and it’s great to be so close to the city,” he noted.

This summer, Narain and his wife welcomed their first child, Noa, and are enjoying parenthood. The family lives in a two-bedroom apartment in the Residences at Edison Lofts building, which has 300 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, including 21 penthouses. “We have a corner apartment, and I think it could very well be the nicest one – we love it,” said Narain.

Homes at Edison Lofts take advantage of existing architectural features of the historic factory, incorporating 14- to 16-foot ceiling heights and eight- and 10-foot replica replacement windows. All residences feature designer kitchens with stainless steel appliances and luxury bathrooms.

Since moving in, Narain has been a regular at the property’s state-of-the-art fitness center. Amenities also include a heated swimming pool, theatre and media screening rooms, personal and bike storage, a dog-washing station, and concierge service as well as a self-serve café. The expansive rooftop Sky Lounge boasts 360-degree unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline, a mix of seating, barbeque grills and fire pit.

Edison Village sits on 21 acres along Main Street in West Orange, in the heart of the township’s Downtown Redevelopment Area. The Residences at Edison Lofts anchors the mixed-use redevelopment, which also includes 18,400 square feet of retail, a 630-space parking structure and The Mews at Edison Lofts, a boutique collection of 34 one- and two-bedroom homes with limited availability remaining.
